Polygon (MATIC) is a great solution to the limitations of the Ethereum network. Here, I would like to show you how to add a Polygon network to MetaMask.
How to add a Polygon network to MetaMask
MetaMask is an electronic wallet that helps you store and buy cryptocurrencies on the Ethereum network.
You can install MetaMask wallet as a browser extension or Android/iOS app.

As I said above, Polygon is a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum so you can also add the Polygon network to MetaMask.
There are 3 ways to add Polygon network to Metamask which I call manual and automatic. You can choose whichever way you want!
You can watch this video here:
1. Manually Add Polygon Network to MetaMask
Step 1: First you click on the fox icon of MetaMask. Click the arrow next to Ethereum Mainet and select [Custom RPC].
Step 2: Then, depending on whether you want to add a Polygon mainnet or testnet network, fill in the following parameters:
Add Polygon network to Metamask (Mainnet):
Network Name | Polygon Mainnet |
New RPC URL | https://polygon-rpc.com/ |
Chain ID | 137 |
Currency Symbol | MATIC |
Block Explorer URL | https://polygonscan.com/ |
Add Polygon network to Metamask (Testnet):
Network Name | Matic Mumbai |
New RPC URL | https://rpc-mumbai.maticvigil.com/ |
Chain ID | 80001 |
Currency Symbol | MATIC |
Block Explorer URL | https://mumbai.polygonscan.com/ |
Step 3: When done, click [Save] to save.
Then you click on the drop-down arrow to select the Polygon Mainnet network, you will see the following.
Now MATIC coin is the default coin of the network, not ETH as default anymore.
To operate on the Polygon network, you need MATIC coin as a transaction fee.
You can buy on Binance exchange and transfer. Or go "please" as I will guide below.
2. How to add Polygon network to MetaMask automatically
This is a way to add a Polygon network to MetaMask based on a third party so I do not recommend it. Not only for the Polygon network but other networks as well.
To add the Polygon network to Metamask automatically, visit the following link: https://chainlist.org/.
- Click [Connect Wallet]
- Type "polygon" in the search box
- Click the [Add to Metask] button
If you want to add a Matic testnet network, you drag the lever to the right in the [Testnet] box, it will show the testnet network!
NOTE: To add a Polygon network to Metamask on a phone:
Because on the MetaMask app, when clicking on the network name it does not show the Custom RPC box, so you have to do a few more steps.
First, click on the 3 dashes at the top > Settings > Networks > Add Network. Then fill in the information as above.
3. Add Polygon Network to Metamask using Polygonscan
Depending on whether you want to add the Polygon network to the Metamask mainnet or testnet, do the following!
Add Polygon network to Metamask using Polygonscan (Mainnet):
- Visit: https://polygonscan.com/
- Scroll to the bottom of the web page > Click [Add Polygon Network]
- A pop-up will appear, click [Approve] and you're done
Add Polygon network to Metamask using Polygonscan (Testnet):
- Visit: https://mumbai.polygonscan.com/
- Scroll down to the bottom of the website > Click [Add Mumbai Network]
- A pop-up will appear, click [Approve] and you're done
What is Polygon?
Polygon (formerly Matic Network) is a Layer 2 (Layer 2) solution for the Ethereum native chain.
So when adding a Matic network to Metamask, it is also adding a Polygon network to Metamask!
Polygon and Layer 2 solutions in general help retain the “beauty” of Ethereum but overcome the disadvantages of this blockchain such as slow speed, high transaction fees.
Polygon's coin is $MATIC.
By adding the Matic network to MetaMask, you can operate on the Ethereum network with faster speeds and cheaper fees.
Instructions to withdraw MATIC from Binance via MetaMask
Depending on the network on MetaMask that you want to withdraw through, you choose the network on the corresponding Binance exchange!
MATIC withdrawal fee from Binance on Ethereum network (ERC20) is quite high ~ 10 MATIC. Not including transaction fees.
And if you want to withdraw MATIC to the Polygon network MetaMask wallet after adding the Polygon network to MetaMask, on the Binance exchange you choose the network as Polygon! But this network is currently under maintenance.
How to apply for MATIC as a fee?
To earn some MATIC coins as a transaction fee for the network, you can go to one of these two websites:
Then connect to the Polygon network MetaMask wallet and follow the instructions.
So, I just went through how to add the Polygon network to MetaMask as well as how to ask for some MATIC coins as a transaction fee on the network.
Good luck!
