Add Avalanche network to MetaMask (2 ways)

I would like to guide you how to connect MetaMask wallet with Avalanche or in other words how to add Avalanche network to MetaMask. Both on mainnet and testnet.

How to add Avalanche network to Metamask

There are two ways for you to add the Avalanche network to MetaMask. I temporarily call adding manually and adding automatically.

If you haven't added it yet, I recommend adding a few times manually to understand how. After this, you can add it automatically for fast.

1. Manually Add Avalanche Network to MetaMask

First, click on the fox icon of MetaMask in your browser > click the drop-down arrow next to Ethereum Mainnet > [Custom RPC]

Then depending on Mainnet (official network) or testnet (test network) you fill in the following parameters!

Add Avalanche network to Metamask Mainnet:

• Network Name: Avalanche Network
• New RPC URL: https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
• Chain ID: 43114
• Currency Symbol (optional): AVAX
• Block Explorer URL (optional): https://snowtrace.io/

Add Avalanche network to Metamask Testnet:

• Network Name: Avalanche Fuji Testnet
• New RPC URL: https://api.avax-test.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
• Chain ID: 43113
• Currency Symbol (optional): AVAX
• Block Explorer URL (optional): https://testnet.snowtrace.io/

Here I just make testnet network model! Your mainnet do the same!

For the testnet, after adding it, you can go here to ask for some AVAX as a transaction fee: https://faucet.avax-test.network

On the MetaMask app: Because when clicking on the network name on the MetaMask app it doesn't show the Custom RPC box, so you have to do a few more steps.

First, click on the 3 dashes at the top > Settings > Networks > Add Network.

Then just fill in the information as above!

2. Add Avalanche network to MetaMask automatically

First you visit the following page: https://chainlist.org/

• Click [Connect Wallet] to connect the wallet
• Type avax in the search box
• Select the mainnet or testnet you want to connect to > click [Add To MetaMask]

What is Avalanche (AVAX)?

Avalanche is a smart contract platform. It improves scalability without sacrificing decentralization.

Avalanche is created from 3 interoperable blockchains:

• X-Chain (Chain of Exchange): create and exchange AVAX tokens along with other digital assets
• C-Chain (Contract Chain): is where developers can create smart contracts (Smart Contracts) for decentralized applications (DApps). This chain is compatible with the Ethereum virtual machine.
• P-Chain (Platform Chain): authenticate, monitor and authorize the creation of new subnets

These blockchains take on different roles that greatly improve speed and scalability compared to all running on the same chain.

Only C-Chain is compatible with the Ethereum virtual machine, so when adding the AVAX network to MetaMask, it refers to this chain.

What is MetaMask Wallet?

MetaMask is an electronic wallet that helps you store and exchange ETH and other assets on the Ethereum network.

As I said above, Avalanche's C-Chain is compatible with the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM), so you can add the AVAX network to MetaMask.
